EP. 16 – The art of body percussion w/ Ollie Tunmer

LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE ON:

Ollie Tunmer is the director of 'Beat Goes On', an organisation working to share the art of body percussion in international schools. As a former cast member of the London and European Tour casts of STOMP and their sister show 'The Lost & Found Orchestra', Ollie knows a thing or two about rhythm and percussion. Ollie and his team draw on influences from around the world to explore how body percussion can be used to develop musical skills, build community, and celebrate together!

In this episode, Ollie explores:

  •  Why the art of body percussion connects so well with the international school music teaching context
  • The culturally-situated nature of body percussion.
  • Some simple ways to get students doing body percussion immediately.
  • How international schools can find a deeper sense of community expression and connection by including body percussion in both curricular and extra-curricular settings.
  • How 'Beat Goes On' supports staff and students through their body percussion scheme of work, their 'Body Beats' book, YouTube videos and a range of workshops.

Enjoy this fun and inspiring episode with the always-energetic Ollie Tunmer.
